Drafter.lol was founded in 2023 by 2 friends who were passionate about competitive League of Legends. We played lots of scrims and tournaments, we looked at the drafting tools available then and at some point we thought: "MULTIPLE LINKS? Unacceptable. Let's make our own."
We started working on the project in roughly December 2023.
After a few weeks of wake up, code, sleep, repeat (with a few breaks to eat), we had a working prototype. And we were HYPED! The results made us very happy and motivated as ever.
We took some time to brainstorm and refine, we added some features, and we were ready for public tests.
We gave the link to some friends to test out our site in their own scrims. The feedback was great, very positive and we were motivated to keep working on the project.
Then the site took off. Spreading like wildfire without any marketing or promotion. We were blown away by the response.
We started a Discord server to help us get feedback and ideas from the community. Implemented some nice new features, things were looking great.
After releasing our big update including the fearless mode, we started getting complaints about the site "freezing".
We thought "Alright, a simple freezing issue? No big deal, we'll fix it soon."
And we went at it, debugging and fixing the issue. We thought we had it, but it kept happening.
We were stumped. We couldn't figure out what was causing it. We were spending hours and hours trying to fix it.
Starting to get desperate after multiple weeks of trying to fix it, we went to look at the logs again, and noticed something strange.
And there it was, such a simple issue, such a stupid mistake. A single line of code that was causing the whole site to freeze during the heaviest traffic.
But what a relief! We finally had a working solution. We could finally BREATHE!
To this day one of us still has a screenshot of the crash logs as their wallpaper, reminding them of the dark past...
After the big issue was fixed, we were able to focus on the future of the project.
We added some new features, we improved the UI, we made the site more stable.
Now there is nowhere to go but forward. We feel blessed to have such a great community supporting us. Now it is our job to keep making Drafter.lol the best drafting tool for competitive League of Legends.
